Sandy Nininger was a charter member of the Key Club in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Nininger bravely fought in the Battle of Bataan in World War II and was killed in action. He was awarded posthumously with the first Congressional Medal of Honor of that war, and it is said that his efforts altered the path of the war in the Pacific. Today the Sandy Nininger Award is the highest award that can be given to a High School Senior in Key Club. The I-I District may recognize one graduating senior each year as the person who exemplifies the ideals of Key Club. In an effort to make the judging as fair as possible, we ask that the following fact sheet be filled out about the candidate and included with a cover letter (maximum one page) explaining how the candidate meets the below criteria, plus a minimum of two and a maximum of five letters of recommendation be submitted. One of the letters must be from either the Faculty or Kiwanis Advisor. The judging will be based on the following

• A recognition of the importance of friends, but an unwillingness to compromise personal living standards or beliefs to pacify them.
  
  
• Having and showing respect for teachers, neighbors, parents and other adults.
  
  
• Striving to excel in all endeavors while recognizing he/she may not be the best student or athelete.
  
  
• Believing that all persons deserve to enjoy economic, athletic, social, and professional activities regardless of sex, race or creed.
  
  
• Having a concern for others, respecting other students and giving of his/herself to help others to be better people.
