| Picture this: you sitting around reading some famous work and, in all of its majesty, it makes reference to some obscure animal, vegetable, or inanimate object. "What in the world is THAT!?" you ask yourself, but the answer is not close at hand. Being the inquisitive type, though, you hustle over to your local library and bust out... <gasp> ...the encyclopedias! Well, thanks to our digital age and my unparalleled skill in web development (have I mentioned yet how modest I am?) this site is able to offer you links from various pages which might reference things foreign to you to your very own Pete-Specefic Encyclopedia... or Encyclo-pete-ia. Lots of the links that you find in the Journal, Soap Box, and Survey Answers are generated by this site "on-the-fly" to links to topics in the Encyclo-pete-ia where I'll explain things from my perspective. And if you think this is a neat idea, you should REALLY check out everything2... which does the same thing on a much larger scale. (And people besides me get to write definitions) |

Over 11,000 college and university students worldwide are in Circle K, making it the largest collegiate service organization in the world. The organization is centered around three foci: Service, Leadership, and Fellowship. More information can be found using the link below.
This yet unfinished chapter of my life has become a big part of who I am and what I do. I was in Key Club in high school, so I decided to give Circle K a shot. It turns out that I was attending a school with one of the strongest Circle K clubs in the Nation. The University of Alabama's Chapter is tremendous. We do a ton of service and have all kinds of fun. (Plug: We meet Monday's and Wednesday's at 7:30 on the third floor of the Ferg.)
The opportunities for service in the club are boundless, I particularly enjoy working at RISE, a daycare for physically and mentally handicapped children from birth to five years old. Who can resist the cuteness of those three-year-olds?? Other popular projects in our club include playing bingo with the residents of a local nursing home, mentoring/tutoring at a home for troubled teenage boys, and tutoring at a grade school.
I seldom get deeply involved in a group or organization without taking on some sort of Leadership role... Circle K is no different. From the very beginning of my CKI career, I was becoming involved at the club and district level. My first appointment, early in my freshman year, was to chair the K-Family Relations Committee in our home club. Shortly after, I was appointed to the district board where I served as the Revitalization Chairperson for the Vulcan Division. After serving in these two posts, I ran for District Secretary in Late February of 2000 in Birmingham at our Annual District Convention... and won. I truly enjoy the opportunity to help clubs grow and contribute more to their campuses and communities, and I can't wait to see what the future holds for Circle K.
